Welcome! Please take your seats as we go over the spots that our grandparents ... I mean our piercers love to pinch and poke. We will walk you through the names and jewelry worn on the face. You might be saying to yourself. "Hey Bodyartforms, what about septum and nostril piercings?! Those are on your face too!" While you are correct, we thought we would highlight nose piercings in a future blog.

BITES PIERCING

A bite piercing is a pair of piercings that are located either on the bottom or upper lip area. The most common bite piercing is snake bites, which are found on the bottom lip near the edge of your mouth. The reverse variation of that is angel bites, which are found on the upper lip near the edge of your mouth. There are a ton of others ones like spider bites, shark bites, cyber bites and if your favorite band is Disturbed, you might like dolphin bites.

The most popular jewelry worn in the bite piercing are rings and studs. However, you can rock some circular barbells in any bottom lip piercing.

BRIDGE PIERCING

A Bridge piercing is located on the bridge of your nose in between your eyes. Don't worry, you won't go cross eyed with this piercing, even if it is in your line of sight. You may stare at it for the first couple of days, but eventually you will get use to it.

The standard jewelry worn in a bridge piercing are straight barbells. Depending on your anatomy & how you were pierced, you may need a curved barbell.

CHEEK PIERCING

The Cheek piercing is located on your cheeks. They are also known as dimple piercings because the piercing is placed where a dimple is or where a dimple would be at. Cheek piercing are considered a high risk piercing because you are piercing through an area of skin that contains a lot of nerves, blood vessel and saliva glans.

The most common jewelry worn in cheek piercing are labrets.

EYEBROW PIERCING

An Eyebrow piercing is located anywhere along your eyebrow. However, the standard placement is at the edge of your eyebrow, away from your nose. You can have one or you can have multiple.

The majority of jewelry worn in an eyebrow piercings are going to be curved barbells, but you can totally wear a variety of rings.

JESTRUM PIERCING

The Jestrum piercing is a single piercing that goes through your philtrum and then comes out on the pigmented part of your upper lip. It is the upper lip version of a vertical labret.

The commonly jewelry worn in a jestrum is a curved barbell.

LABRET PIERCING

The classic and very popular labret piercing, is located in the center right below your bottom lip. It can get confusing because a labret is a type of jewelry and it is also a piecing location.

The standard jewelry worn in a labret piercing is a labret, but you can wear a ton of different style rings like captives, clickers and circular barbells.

LIP PIERCING

The lip piercing is a catchall for all the other piercings that can be done on your upper or lower lip. Most piercings are usually named after the spot they are pierced. But since there are so many areas on the lip that can be pierced, a lot of them have started to get nicknames so that people can distinguish between them all. Some of the names are Monroe (located on the upper lip towards the right corner of your mouth), Madonna (located on the upper lip towards the left corner of your mouth), or Dahlia (located on the edge of your mouth.) A lip piercing is also on either side of a labret piercing.

Most people prefer to wear labrets in this piercing, but you can also wear rings.

PHILTRUM PIERCING

The Philtrum piercing is located where it is named in the vertical indentation in the middle area of your upper lip. Philtrum is the anatomical name of that area. A nickname to the philtrum piercing is medusa.

Most people prefer to wear labrets in this piercing.
