These gem ends are made from sterling silver and then plated. Yellow & rose gold are plated in 18k gold vermeil.  Silver and black are plated in rhodium. All are equipped with a steel pin.

Vermeil is a plating finish that refers specifically to solid sterling silver that is plated with gold. The gold must be at least 10K, and have a plating thickness of  2.5 microns.
